With people processing visuals 60,000 times faster than text, it’s no surprise that images are extremely important when it comes to marketing your business.
In a world driven by the web and with competition a dime a dozen, businesses need more than compelling copy, particularly when it comes to putting your business in the media spotlight.
Whether it’s for advertising, digital marketing or approaching the media with a news story, investing in your image library is an investment in your business’ future.
These are our top tips to help you get started.
– Avoid sub-standard smartphone images – use a professional photographer. They are readily available and give your brand the professional look and feel it needs to attract an audience right from the beginning, particularly for digital and traditional marketing.
– We know it’s tempting, but #nofilter is a thing. With good quality images, you won’t need to apply a filter, so avoid it from the start and let your image composition speak for itself.
– It’s a common myth that newspapers and online news sites will send a photographer to do the snapping for you. While this is the case in some situations, there aren’t enough hours in the day for this to happen for everyone and many businesses are expected to supply their own press-ready images. Being prepared is key.
– When sending a press release to a news media outlet, always accompany it with two to three press-ready images. You only have a few seconds to spark a journalist’s interest to read on and showing your images up front will significantly increase your chances of having your story picked up.
– Always have hi-res on file. High resolution means 300 dpi and at least 2 megabytes in size. Whether you need to design a flyer, add an image to a business card, create a slider for your website or respond to a press enquiry, hi-res is a must. You can always reduce an image size for digital, but you can’t increase it the other way.
