Today, it’s very difficult to imagine business without the internet. With technology constantly evolving and the shift to a digital age, more and more businesses are relying on social media for their success.
While there is an endless amount of tips out there that claim to make you an overnight sensation or to give you thousands of followers with the flick of a switch, there are five very simple ones that will put you and your business on the road to success – and they won’t cost you a thing.
- Proactive planning
Successful social media marketing and management takes a little more than choosing a photo and writing a quick caption. Put simply, a social media schedule is a plan. Regardless of what platform you use to create it, whether it is Excel, Word, Google’s G Suite or a dedicated scheduling program, having a plan ensures that you are generating content that is going to benefit your business in the long term. It also takes a lot of the daily stress out of trying to come up with meaningful content at the last minute and it’s more likely to help you remain consistent.
- Consistency, consistency, consistency
You know those TV ads we hear over and over again and before we know it, we are humming the tune? Mission complete. The more you hear from someone, the more you begin developing knowledge of them and their brand. Posting once a month is simply not enough to be memorable and consistency is all about having a regular and familiar presence.
- Clear and concise
We underestimate the power of the caption. It’s very easy to get carried away and try to share your entire business message at once. Ask yourself: Do I REALLY want to read a caption that is a page long when scrolling through my own social media account? Keep it short and sweet and try to deliver your content in a way that will draw people to your brand, not away from it. Remember to also avoid industry jargon as anyone that doesn’t know what you’re talking about will just switch off.
- Like-worthy images
You only have a few seconds to impress someone with your images before they scroll onto the next one. If your brand is one that is very visual, use that to your advantage and deliver your product or offering with bright, bold and enticing snaps. Studies have found that pairing your message with a relevant image will see your followers retain 65% of the information as opposed to just 10% without an image.
- All good things take time
We hear this message a lot in everyday life and it applies to social media too. While no-one wants to hear it, the fact is social media success doesn’t grow overnight and it does requires patience. There is no magic wand that can be waved to create 10k followers or an inbox full of orders. However, if you take all the above points into account, you will be well on your way to social media success.
